Certain vehicles equipped to run on compressed natural gas are being recalled because the high pressure natural gas regulator could develop a leak, increasing the risk of a fire or explosion. Dealers will replace the natural gas regulator to correct this concern.
GMC Savana 3500 Recalls
Certain vehicles are being recalled because if a crash were to occur not requiring deployment of the front airbags, the head of an unbelted front seat passenger could hit the instrument panel, resulting in personal injury because the panel may not sufficiently absorb the impact. As of this writing, General Motors is still working on a remedy for this concern.
IMPCO Technologies installed a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system as original equipment on certain 2011-2013 full size GM vans. These vans are being recalled because the electrical connector on the fuel shut off solenoid can corrode, causing the connector to overheat, increasing the risk of a fire. Both dealers and fleet operators will be performing the necessary updates to correct this concern. The corrections include: replacing the fuel shut off solenoid, fuel pump fuse, and adjusting the wiring routing.
Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans are used by the Explorer Van Company as the base vehicle for some of their van conversions. Certain Explorer vans are being recalled because the wiring under the power seats may not have been properly secured during vehicle conversion. The wires can be damaged by the seat mechanism resulting in an electrical short and possibly a fire. Dealers will inspect and replace any seat wire harness found to be damaged. If the harness is not damaged, it will be secured to prevent future damage.
Under regular conditions you should not be able to remove your key from the ignition cylinder while your car is on and/or your transmission is not in the Park position. This may occur due to a manufacturing defect in your vehicle's ignition lock cylinder. Removing the key while the vehicle is still running and/or in Park may allow your vehicle to roll away causing an accident. To correct this condition GM will replace the ignition lock cylinder and 2 provide 2 new keys. The GM recall # is 12332.
All late model vehicles are equipped with a "Shift interlock" system that prevents vehicles with and automatic transmission from being shifted out of the Park position under certain conditions. Some of these vehicles are being recalled because they may have been assembled with a broken park lock cable or a malformed steering column lock actuator gear. Failure of these components can allow the shifter to be moved out of the Park position with the ignition key removed or in the off position. This can cause the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly increasing the risk of injury or a crash. Dealers will inspect the recalled vehicles and replace the steering column as necessary.
On vehicles equipped with a left side cargo door, water and road contaminants may become trapped in the protective conduit that covers the fuel filler pipe, which can cause the pipe to corrode. Significant corrosion may allow fuel to leak during refueling, and in the presence of an ignition source, this could cause a fire. Dealers will install a new fuel filler neck to correct this concern. The General Motors recall number is 12166.
The steering gear pitman shaft may not have been adequately hardened and could break. If this occurs, a loss of steering ability will result, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the steering gear and replace the steering gear pitman shaft if necessary to correct this concern. The General Motors recall number is 12005.
The second stage of the dual-stage passenger airbag will not inflate in a severe frontal impact. Accordingly, the airbags do not meet the federal safety standards. In the event of a crash, an improperly deployed airbag will increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Dealers will replace the front passenger airbag to correct this concern. The General Motors recall number is 11302.
A short circuit may develop in the voltage regulator, internal to the alternator. This could cause the alternator to overheat to the point of causing a fire. Dealers will inspect and replace the affected alternators as necessary. This recall is scheduled to begin by April 12, 2010. The General Motors recall number is 10216.
