Report: Fuel Level Sensor Failure
Buick Park Avenue Problem
Model Years Affected: 1994, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005
Average Mileage: 111,914 mi (80,000 mi - 176,000 mi)
It is common for the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank read the fuel level incorrectly. The sensor must be replaced to correct the condition. Our technicians recommend having the complete fuel pump module replaced on high mileage vehicles.

When I turn my gas guage will travel either to the empty position or it will travel the opposite direction to the full position intermitent problem also gives false mileage left on digital readout on dash

THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD SWING BACK TO FULL AFTER ABOUT 200 MILES AND THE ONBOARD COMPUTER WOULD SHOW A FULL READING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD LIGHT UP. THE SOLUTION IS TO HAVE SOMEONE SHUT OFF THE LIGHT AND KEEP THE TANK FULL. THIS MEANS FILLUPS AT 2OO MILES RATHER THAN AT 350.LARRYM

Fuel gauge jumps around to different readouts. More erratic at low levels more than high levels. Thank You!

Guage ok at greater than 1/4 tank level. Below 1/4 tank level guage was erratic and occasionally would bounce wildly side to side. Tank level needle ended up stuck under empty pin and stopped acting erratically but no level indication until low fuel light illuminated. Miles to empty and low fuel light continued to work almost flawlessly. Replaced fuel tank punp and sender, now need to unstick the gauge needle to have a working fuel tank level gauge again.

Fuel guage zips back-and-forth from "low fuel" area to full tank; each time it goes back down to "low fuel" the bell rings and the "low fuel" reading comes up. I counted 10 bell sounds at one red light, then when I get gas it behaves normally. I try to get gas at the 1/2-way point, but that sometimes happens before payday.
