Erratic Fuel Gauge Operation on GMC Savana 3500

It is common for the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank read the fuel level incorrectly. The sensor must be replaced to correct the condition. Our technicians recommend having the complete fuel pump module replaced on high mileage vehicles.

problem details
1997 GMC Savana 3500 125,500 mi,
Fuel gauge bobs from full to 3/4 full no matter the amount of fuel in the tank.
2002 GMC Savana 3500 291,791 mi,
Noticed the fuel guage was jumping up and down and at time saying full even though I knew it was low. This also happened on me 1998 Chevy express van 3500 2 years ago I had just filled the tank an accident before I was going to drop the tank so I decided to pull back the rubber bed mat and I'm a trim carpenter so I measured over to center of fuel pump and drilled a 6" circle over top and this allowed me to replace the pump easy and good thing because the new one lasted less then a year. The pc of metal that I cut out I riveted 5- 1" pcs around the edge placed it back and pulled the matt back over it for future access.
2001 GMC Savana 3500 110,000 mi,
faulty fuel guage- reads 3/4 full to completely full even when empty
