engine fan keeps running
sikpony, 1999 Ford Escort, 2.0L , Hollister, CA, January 05, 2009, 14:38
where is the tempature sensor located?on the motor or the radiator?near the top or bottom?

Bret Bodas, January 05, 2009, 17:14
If your cooling fan motor keeps running, you will want to disconnect remove the fuse (40 amp fuse in the battery junction box) to keep it from draining the battery. It's likely that the CCRM (Constant Control Relay Module) is bad and keeping the fan on.

door ajar and interior lighting
mmedford, 1997 Ford Taurus, 3.0L V6, Olympia, WA, January 04, 2009, 17:38
The indicator light on the dash says the door is open when it's closed and when this happens the interior lights will not go out. This model does't have the typical plunger type switch. Could someone let me know how to resolve?

it sounds like your door switch is defective or needs adjusting. Some cars have the courtesy light switch inside the main door lock/latch mechanism. In this case, often the whole assembly needs to be replaced. You can pull your courtesy/dome light fuse, so your battery won't go dead until you get the problem resolved. There should be a fuse guide in your owners manual and a location for the interior fuse panel. There may be a guide on the fuse panel cover as well. it is usually in the left to lower left dash area.

Gear shift won't shift gears, but gear shift moves (slides) up & down. But I can shift it under the hood by moving the lever.

Andy Y, January 05, 2009, 10:31
Something in the shift linkage may have broken if you can shift it manually under the under hood.

George 01, 1995 Ford Mustang, V8, Clifton Heights, PA, January 03, 2009, 10:31
Just had a trans installed at ford dealer in overdrive trans whines hit overdrive switch noise goes away on and off @40mph
Answer #1
Andy Y, January 05, 2009, 10:52
For many repairs, Parts and labor at many dealers has a 1 year warranty attached to that repair. If the dealer has just replaced the transmission, and it's already whining, definitely call them
Answer #2
hemicuda, January 05, 2009, 10:12
This repair should be under warranty from the ford dealer, you should contact them before your warranty runs out.

rick s, 2002 Ford F-150, Lakeland, FL, January 03, 2009, 04:59
My 2002 f-150 sometimes skips badly to the point that the truck bucks. It does not always do it, but does it quite often. The problem seems to occuring at the top rpms in each gear. Does not seem to do it when idling. Codes indicated EGR, PCV, and numerous other problems. Replaced them to no avail. Check engine light stays on. 4.2 (6cyl) with standard trans

Slow Warm-up
shorty, 1997 Ford Escort, 2.0L , Manvel, ND, January 02, 2009, 09:12
I have a 97 Escort, that I have been having heating problems with. Thermostat has been changed twice, and the last time, bypass gasket was also changed. I have to drive it for approx. 5 miles before it gets into operating range. Once there, it heats fine until I get into town, then goes down again. No one seems to have an answer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Shorty

what does your temp gauge say when the car is heating normally? It sounds like there is a circulation problem that is helped by the faster speed of the engine when you are on the highway. It could be that the impeller of your water pump is worn and it takes a higher engine rpm to circulate the water, especially in a cold environment like winter in ND. Another possibility is that your heater core could be restricted and the higher engine rpm pushes/forces more coolant flow. It is pretty simple to flush out a heater core while checking a water pump impeller is more involved and requires timing belt component removal. I would begin with flow testing the heater core by disconnecting the heater hoses and either blowing through it or using a hose to flow water through it. If it is restricted, then you can flush it with some radiator flush. It is not an uncommon problem, especially if the coolant changes have been infrequent ( like more than every 30,000 miles ).

Creak at low speeds
Bern, 2002 Ford Explorer, Kent, WA, December 31, 2008, 15:24
When the speed is less than 10 mph and I have a passenger, there is a creak in the rear of the vehicle. As the speed picks up, the creak disappears. Without a passenger, the creak is barely noticeable.
Answer #1
Russ, January 02, 2009, 09:59
Suspension creaks can be very hard to pinpoint. If you can hear the noise when pushing down on the rear bumper have a someone try and listen to where the noise is coming from. It could be a worn shock or bushing causing the noise.

It appears that you have done about all you can do without a wiring diagram and a volt/ohm meter. These will be needed to diagnose the electrical circuits related to the low beam headlights. You may find a wiring diagram online or in a repair manual!

Front grinding noise and pulling left
eamr, 2003 Ford Explorer, 4.0L V6, Miami, FL, December 31, 2008, 08:22
The car is a '03 Explorer AWD on 38k.
4x4 H and L are working fine, but the same problem has happened in 4x4 H (havent tried with 4x4 L).
Answer #1
Andy Y, December 31, 2008, 11:32
One of the CV shafts might be binding causing noise and the pull to the left. It may make noise until the front wheels/4wd disengages. I'm not familiar with how the 4wd engages but if the front diff has a solenoid to engage the front wheels, it's possible that is hanging up
Answer #2
hemicuda, December 31, 2008, 10:14
Sounds like your left front auto locking hub dosn't disengage right away after being in 4 X 4 H, or do you have manual locking hubs?

The Explorer 03 has no manual hubs for locking/unlocking the differentials, its all electronically controlled.
There's 3 settings: 1)4x4 Auto - locks differentials on demand 2) 4x4 Hi - differentials completely locked 3)4x4 Lo - completely locked on a low gear setting.
