Prior to replacing the automatic transmission fluid (to improve shift quality), make sure that the transmission fluid level is correct. Also, make sure the computer that controls the transmission has the most up-to-date adaptive programming information. When servicing these transmissions be sure to use fluid approved by Hyundai.

2007 Tiburon GT automatic transmission shifts poorly from 2nd to 3rd. Engine revs and clutch engages hard. Problem occurs about 8-20 miles into a trip. Usually not before and not after this range. May be a little rougher in cold weather but also does this in warmer weather fairly often. Over the past several years, the local Hyundai dealer has replaced the transmission control module, re-loaded the software more than once, replaced the temperature sensor 3 times (failed/error code twice, I believe), replaced the wiring harness, replaced the transmission fluid twice at my expense and replaced the transmission filter once at my expense. I have also had technicians drive the car and simply say they couldn't reproduce the problem and send me on my way until next time. Obviously, the dealer does not know if this is a mechanical, electrical or electronic control problem. A certified Hyundai tech will once again use instrumentation to try to record/document the shift problem next week. I have lost track of the number of times I have been to the dealer about this recurring problem.
