The ignition switch actuator can bind causing the ignition switch to stick in the "start" position. If this were to occur the actuator can unexpectedly release, cause the ignition switch to snap back into the "Accessory" position. This would cause the engine to turn off with an associated loss of brake and steering power assist. If these conditions were to lead to a crash the airbags may not deploy as expected. Dealers will inspect and replace the ignition lock housing as necessary to correct this concern.
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Recalls
Certain trucks are being recalled because the rear axle shaft may not have been properly heat treated prior to vehicle assembly and could fail while driving. If this were to occur a rear wheel could separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the affected axles to correct this concern.
A fault can develop with the Electric Power Steering resulting in sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the power steering assist motor kit to correct this concern.
The chassis electrical module can short due to internal contamination. This can result in the vehicle stalling. Dealers will replace the chassis electronic module free of charge to resolve the concern.
The tie rod where it threads into the steering gear rack may not be tightened enough. Dealers will inspect the inner toe rods to make sure they are correctly tightened, replacing any defective steering gear as necessary free of charge to resolve the concern.
The transmission cooler may leak transmission oil at one of the fittings where the transmission oil lines hook up to it. Dealers will inspect the cooler line connection and repair the vehicles as needed free of charge.
When idling the engine in cold weather, certain components of the exhaust system may overheat, resulting in melting of plastic components and a possible engine fire. Dealers will reprogram the engine control module free of charge to resolve the concern.
The front seat backs may have excessive free play. Dealers will inspect the seat back recliner mechanisms and make adjustments as needed free of charge to resolve the concern.
The passenger front air bag inflator may have a faulty weld that can result in ineffective protection when deployed in an accident. Dealers will replace the inflator free of charge to resolve the concern.
All late model vehicles are equipped with a "Shift interlock" system that prevents vehicles with and automatic transmission from being shifted out of the Park position under certain conditions. Some of these vehicles are being recalled because they may have been assembled with a broken park lock cable or a malformed steering column lock actuator gear. Failure of these components can allow the shifter to be moved out of the Park position with the ignition key removed or in the off position. This can cause the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly increasing the risk of injury or a crash. Dealers will inspect the recalled vehicles and replace the steering column as necessary.
