2007 BMW 530xi QuestionsRefine by vehicle
All of a sudden my car won't stop shaking. The shaking is worse when stopped. The car sits in the garage mostly and only has 64,000 miles on it. The check engine light stays on. I am not sure what to do with it if I should take it to the dealership since I don't have a regular mechanic? It's a 2007. Also, how long is it drivable for?
What does it mean
Just bought the 2007 530xi. I am asking if the noise I am about to describe is normal or a problem. The sound starts at about 10km and continues at all higher speeds. The only way I can describe the sound is that it is the same as listening to the tire friction sounds when a 4x4 with very large tires drives by. My tires are new, but I am quite certain it is not the tires. Sound appears to be coming from the front of the car. Is this sound normal to this car? I expected it to be much quieter.
But BMW speciality shop claims this means I also need rotors which they estimate at 780.00 for repairs. Is this true? Do you have to replace rotars whenever replacing pads?
My BMW dealer (Hassel BMW in Freeport NY) claims the price to replace the front parking (parking not headlight) lamp bulb is $245.00. They claim they have to remove the headlight assembly to replace the bulb. Does this make sense?
car did not start two weeks ago, jumped and started.. battery icon shows. Car has been running fine otherwise. Pulled car in garage yesterday tried to restart, started but hard.Tried to shift but locked and won't move. Transmission fault light on display, red clutch display with ! inside.
I called one of the BMW specialty shops recommended by RepairPal for no start. The shop claimed that most likely the battery needs to be replaced. I know from the dealer that you have to program a computer in the car anytime you replace a battery. I told this to the mechanic but he started laughing and said that the dealer probably wants to make extra money. So, I don't know now if you have to or don't have to program the computer. Please answer asap!
Do you put air in the BMW tire like other cars or is there something different that you do? I'm having trouble removing the cap on the little air valve.
2007 BMW 530xi with pong noise in front when hits bumps it magnifies. 1 dealer said differential (replaced front differential & still same problem). Also replaced front left wheel bearing (still same problem). Swapped wheels & tires w/another 5-series & still heard same pong-noise (sounds like a rubber ball in a tin can noise). 2nd Dealer suggested swap for better Michelin Pilot tires which are softer & better insulated tires which are known for noise reductions. Will have these swapped on 8/19/2010 at dealer for no charge. Any suggestions?
Where is it??? Jumper connections in engine compartment, but no sign of battery
