ABS went out after only a few thousand miles but unfortunately after the warranty had expired. Repair shop wanted $1500 to repair it. I've been waiting for a recall on this as I've heard it's a common problem with Safari and Astro vans. Also I've driven without ABS for about 30 years.A few more won't make any difference
2002 GMC Safari 81,283 mi,
I have replaced the ABS module now 3 times in the last year.(The dealership has paid for it twice). Does anyone know what the hell is going on? The last module lasted less than 24 hours.

2002 GMC Safari 116,000 mi,
Sometimes after driving for five minutes , both "BRAKE" & "ABS" lights come on. My mechanic says it will cost around $1.700 to fix... After reading the other stories and the repairs aren't a sure cure.......I think I'll just ignore them.
2003 GMC Safari 116,300 mi,

2000 GMC Safari 66,000 mi,
not repaired
2000 GMC Safari 55,000 mi,
My problem is the same one that is described in the original problem report. The only exception is that the problem manifested itself soon after the vehicle's warranty ran out. This happened around 55000 miles.
ABS system does not engage when braking firm & hard (basically you have regular non-ABS brakes. ABS & Parking Brake indicators on dash board remain lit after engine start. When going for State Safety Inspection, make sure the indicators are off. Can't afford a $900 fix on a 14 year old van.
