Engine was loosing coolant due to bad water pump, swapped out pump and reconnected everything. it has a full reservoir but it doesnt seem to be pulling in the coolant. engine over heats right as it starts. gauge starts moving quickly.

Air in cooling system .. Stuck closed thermostat .. Defective water pump .. Drive belt misrouted turning water pump in reverse.
TEST for blown head gasket. from cold start with system closed (cap on radiator) , does it build pressure immediately? like you can feel the upper radiator hose getting tight within a few seconds or a minute?
no that doesnt seem to be the case, i just responded to the previous answer though on how it seemed to be air in the coolant system and it seemed to be rectified this morning, with topping off coolant etc. then truck sputtered and died and wont turn over now. any thoughts? T-stat maybe?
Air , fuel , spark.--What is missing?
Try jump start.
belt is on good, pump for all purposes works ok, seemed to be air in cooling system, i let it set and tried this morning, topped off coolant all seemed to be going well, then it sputtered and died. now it wont turn over? any thoughts? t-stat?
Check battery cables, clean and tighten! .. May need jump start .. (Did you 'by chance' remove the alternator while installing H20 pump? .. Did you un-hook the battery cable(s)?
ill check the battery next, and when removing pump, i didn't fully remove alternator just removed 3 of the 4 bolts to kind of wiggle it away from there. no unhooking of the battery (bad i know) but afterward i did use a steel brush to clean away corrosion. ( during test drive last night the car started and ran normally? just after this morning is when it cut out? could it still be the battery even after that test drive?)
