I'm trying to tap into the cigarette lighter wiring to run a remote wire to an amplifier. The tray does not seem to pop out and I don't want to pry too hard and damage my new car.

is the cigarette lighter FUSED with the correct AMP fuse?ever heard that saying"DON'T PLAY WITH FIRE"?
Also, MOST of the time an amplifier needs to be hooked up to the battery itself with a fairly large guage wire and a fuse link to protect the circuit... I'm sure it depends on the amplifiers power output... Read all instructions for the amp OR Google > Crutchfields and ask an audio pro! .. Just be careful that you don't cost yourself 'more money' by doing it wrong... Just saying.
I am running a thick gauge power wire from the battery to the amp. I just need a remote turn on wire to fire up the amp when the vehicle is on, and not running full time draining my battery. The VW factyory stereo always has power (even when the vehicle is off and key removed, you can turn on the stereo. The cigarette lighter is the closest option that turns off when the vehicle is off and has the correct amperage.
As long as you got the specifics, we just trying to help you out here! .. Believe me, some of the folks that post questions need ALL the help they can get!.. We never know... Try searching YouTube for a vid on the removal of power outlet tray . Good luck..
Yeah, no luck on YouTube. Thanks!!
Well that is a pretty new vehicle and still under warranty so it's not likely you will find the info you need.., You may already know about Crutchfields but in case you ever need ANYTHING related to this type of install, that's the place to go! .. Best price and top shelf equipment in the market, super fast shipping and a great source for install info. with all the necessary components... That's where we get all of our audio equipment from at the shop and we've looked into it from every vantage point! .. Just can't beat 'em...
The cigarette lighter is the correct amperage (15) and obviously factory fused.
most vehicles have two fuses for the radio.one is hot at all times and one is switched.good luck.
Thanks!
