I turn the key and hear a click. Engine doesn't turn over

get a helper to help you check the starter..have them turn the key to try and start it while you smack the starter with a hammer..if the starter spins or attempts to spin the engine while smacking it,replace the starter,it's bad.

Been doing that for a while now? .. Will it finally crank the engine if the key is cycled enough times??
