What is your question?
it starts cold at around 2200 RPMs. I think that is to high and want to know what causes that and how do I change it? Is this a common problem. It has 125,000 miles on it. I just purchased this car.

OK , how long after start up does it start to slow down on its' own? IF idle starts at 2200 RPM and within a minute or less , gradually starts to slow down , and reaches normal idle and temp. within 5 minutes , this may NOT be a problem. Monitor and take notes next cold start and maybe reply with results. It IS a TOYOTA , either way , you still got a good car.
I agree... Totally!!!.... Nothing unusual about rpm flare for a few seconds after cold start on this engine.... My (2002) does it too! Just keep it serviced (oil changed) at scheduled intervals!!!! ... That's a must do!
Now if we get a response from 'joanie3' , that would be ............hey! Squirrel! I gotta hit the road and in 32 miles i"ll be at 338K on my Camry! This time you'll see proof in about 35 minutes.
Can't beat 'em!!... I'm not sure this 'chained' engine will do that without some work... So far so good @ 190k...no rattling yet! .. Little valve seal smoke on first start but don't add any oil between service.... I ain't touching it!
Marvel Mystery Oil! try it!.....Happy day!
Firm believer in it already!!!
What do you mean, mystery oil? Is that an additive of some sort? I noticed you didn't comment about the full synthetic, as to wether it is good or not so much. Guess doesn't matter much, it has been used, so we were told, and once synthetic is used we understand from others we must contiue to use it. Thanks again for your tips.
That's "Marvel Mystery Oil".... It's not an engine oil 'per se' but a very good additive with many uses!! ... Google it!....Oh btw.... It smells good too, I think, hell might be good to use as perfume!!!.....Well,...maybe not.... As for the arguments about 'synthetic' oils... I can not say yea or nay.... I use conventional oil and try to change it regularly!.... You may use whatever you like...and switch back and forth without any problems!
It doesn't stay that high more than a few secs. I already found out that "spikes" are normal as long as idle comes down. We just bought this car, changed the oil today. We used 5/30 full synthetic as that is what previous owner used. So far so good, love the car, just need to do a few minor things to it. My husband has been a mechanic all his life, but not on toyotas or newer cars so just need to be brought up to speed on some stuff. Thanks for your reply!
