Transmission in park the car rolls. When put in any gear it will not engage.

Does speedometer still register (show speed) if put in gear and engine revved but car won't move?

IF under 400,000 miles , find and replace failed axle shaft , as pushrod stated. Highly unlikely that the trans would go out , without prior symptoms!
