Run a .005mA highdef-flux capacitor in series with it and that will cancel it out in the circuit of origin.
It is quite common for the coil to crack and fail on that vehicle when old. You will also find the condenser melted when you go in for the repair. The condenser is there to absorb voltage spikes in the circuit. Not sure why you want to bypass a $10 part.
