Thanks for the info.
Mine idles at about 700. I tend to do a lot of idling with the A/C on and thought that the low idle could be the cause of my battery losing some oomph. I had to get a jump off today. The alternator is supposedly charging just fine so what else could be causing it? It seems that as long as I keep the idle speed at about 1k my car starts fine. The guy at advance auto said my battery's cracking amps were down about 200 lower than it should be for my battery. The battery is only about 2 years old. I guess I'll look into getting a new one ;o\
Suggest shifting to neutral or park and turn off unneeded accessories during extended idle!! ........ Alternator is NOT keeping the battery charged under that much load.... Been there!!!!!
I take my dog everywhere with me but if I have t be in a store longer than 10 minutes I leave it running with the A/C on and lock the doors with my spare key. I'm guessing this is when it is draining on the battery. I changed my belts about 6 months ago, is it possible for the belts to be slipping but not enough to make them squeal but enough to effect the charging ability of the alternator?
Turn everything else off .... blower on a lower speed and try it.... Have alt output checked while accessories PLUS headlights are on and idling for a good bit.... Bet it's not charging the battery!,,, now it is possible you may need a new alternator... But I have seen this before and as long as vehicle is NOT left idling under full load for an extended period........ NO problems!!.... This depends on how far the drive home or to your next stop is of course as the battery should recharge while driving awhile ....... Cool Boxer! Dog lover myself ... Who isn't really?
