should i replace my fuel filter before the pump or after

Well, you will probably get a few different answers on when to change the fuel filter. I just changed a few last week including mine and the fuel that ran out of them was BLACK,BLACK,BLACK,and full of CRAP,including mine, and it has not been very long ago since i replaced it! the others were worse and one guy said he has owned his truck for 4 years and never changed it.I cut my filter and his filter open, now the filter paper in mine was BLACK,BUT his was like BLACK/ GEL inside there, looked very very bad.you will hear anywhere from 1-5 years before it needs changing,BS! I go to the BP 3 miles from here cause it's in SC and it's 27 cents cheaper on the gallon than here in NC. I go to the same pump, same time, same day(don't know if that matters)fill it up once a week, bout 20 gallons,F150,never pump gas if tanker is pumping fuel in the in ground tanks! i will change every 6 months from now on. my friend works for WIX,who makes all of NAPA's filters right here in the city where we live.we have the same type vehicles and he gets all the filters he wants free,so i'm going to really help him out on using them.if you're changing out your fuel pump just change the filter at the same time.when you change the filter, let the excess full coming out of the filter run into a clear cup and look it over.drain all the fuel out of your filter, let it dry out for a few days, cut it open, look at it inside.good luck. Man, i sure am glad i didn't get long winded!
So you're going to replace the fuel pump I assume ... Replacement of 'external' fuel filter before, during OR after the pump installation process doesn't really matter - as long as it's installed as part of the same procedure ... 'When' is entirely up to you!
