What is your question?
on the way home from out of town we had the car on cruise control and all of a sudden it revved up real high. We took off the cruise control and slowly eveything started shutting off and car died at. We pulled it off to the side and tried starting it and it would not kick over. We got my car towed back home and had a friend do a diagnostic test on it. He said it came back as the timing belt needing to be fixed

HI I WOULD HAVE A SHOP VERIFY THAT THE TIMING BELT IS DAMAGED,AS FAR AS COST IT COULD VARY IT DEPENDS IF BELT ONLY OR DAMAGE TO VALVES DUE TO INTERFERENCE WITH VALVES GOOD LUCK
It is listed as an 'interference' engine. The valve cover can be removed to visually inspect for really obvious signs of bent valves. If confirmed that way , you save the time & money of pulling the head , if you don't want to fix it.Otherwise plan on doing a valve job with the timing belt and other associated parts.
