What is your question?
I'm in the process of buying a 2008 Mini Cooper S with 42,300 or so miles on it. I had a safety check done at a very good garage. I really don't like the local Mini Dealership. And since I'm hearing nightmare stories about timing chains and turbos going. I'm thinking I need some protection. Extended service plans seem like a joke, so I am leaning toward breakdown insurance. The dealer is offering preferred for 3 years for $1,800. But I called and they are reluctant to answer any of my questions, they said timing chains are wear and tear. I don't want to spend the next 3 years fighting with a service plan company.

If the timing chain is considered normal wear and tear and it breaks...That is catastrophic failure and evidently NOT covered by 'any' warranty!!....I agree with answer # 1.. However IF you just got to have this vehicle then buy it, we just stating the facts as to some of the problems seen in the shop... Good luck with your purchase, you may not have any problems at all...
My new service plan is a mechanic I befriended. You should do they same. When you just pay for parts, Mini Coopers are super affordable. Plus, you've made a new friend too.
I want this car. Maintenance I can live with, catastrophic failure I cannot.
THESE CARS ARE VERY!!!!!!!! HIGH MAINT AFTER 40K MILES. COMMON ISSUES ARE LEAKING OIL PAN AND OIL COOLER APPROX 800.00 TO REPAIR.WATER PUMPS, TRANS IF AUTO APPROX COST TO REPL 5K DOLLARS.GET THE POINT?
