if any work has been done there,it gets brittle over the years and could break if taken off for some reason.i looked at mine but didn't not touch it.like zt12 said, could be a wiring issue.
If I bought a new fuel pump does that come with it? One of the sensors I talked about with someone was a 190 dollars and if that's the case and it comes with a new fuel pump I might as well just buy the new fuel pump
NO!it is not included in the fuel pump module assembly.that is the sender/float arm/switch that's including with it.all it does it let you know how much fuel is in the tank.the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor is a different part.depending on what SIZE engine you have,if it's a 4 cylinder, then it's $104.99.if it's a 6 cylinder,it's $189.99.but you forgot to put the engine size in your question?maybe SOMEONE got CONFUSED and said the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR comes with it,and it does, but NOT the fuel tank pressure SENSOR!i believe on your truck,it's the same chassis as the ford escape and you can access the fuel pump from folding back the rear passenger seat, and possibly the fuel tank pressure sensor without dropping the tank!
It is the v6 3.0 and it is the 18999 price quote that I got from the parts store but they wanted to know if my van ended in a two or three and it ends in an eight so it can't possibly be the right part. Looks like I'm going to have to go to the dealer for this one and I'm not looking forward to getting raked over the coals.... if a sending unit from parts store cost that much I can only imagine what the dealers getting for it
that was not the SENDING UNIT!it was the fuel tank pressure sensor, and they looked it up for a 2002 year!.......................................

Thanks for the correction I did mean to say pressure sensor... And there is a little hat under the back seat where I can see the top of the tank where the fuel pump is so I guess I'm going to have to get some professional help for this one because my van doesn't end in the two or three events in an 8 the guy the parts store only had parts for something for a vehicle with the VIN ending in a two or three. I'm assuming the first one you listed was for the four cylinder and the second one was for the six cylinder
no!both were for the 6 cylinder.take your vin# to the Mazda dealer.there are 2 different ones that could fit your vehicle.also take the mfg. date in the door jam sticker, when it was built.they need that date and vin#.one is built to,and one is built from that date!they are both the same price here,$137.99 plus tax at Momentum Mazda,Gastonia,NC.they can order and have in 2-3 days.
Thank you so much for all your valuable information on this. Funds are tight for me right now and the last thing I needed was two sensors replaced, neither of which I can get my hands on at local parts stores. My coolant level sensor is also shot and my idiot light is on saying I have low coolant when it's not only full but circulating and blowing heat just fine. UGH!!! Thanks again. You rock!!! :)
I was plugged into a diagnostics machine and told that particular sensor was the code that came up.
