1990 MPV making screeching sound in Park and Neutral
What is your question?
I have a 1990 Mazda mpv v6 3.0L RWD with 220,000 miles on it, whenever I start the car it makes a loud screeching sound, it sounds like its metal on metal. It only will make the sound in park and neutral though. When I shift into gear everything sounds normal. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be? Oh and the transmission has about 150,000 miles on it.

First thing to check is the drive belts! Sounds like the alternator belt is slipping...when you put it in gear it changes rpm...after engine warms up does the noise stop?
as far as I can tell it doesn't depend on temperature or rpm, it only makes the sound in park and neutral though. It doesn't make it while driving.
Weird one! Probably need a mechanic to listen to it...
most definitely!
The sound seems to becoming from the back of the engine/front of the transmission if that helps at all
