car wont go into gear so i can take it to get serviced is there away to release it manually

Have a car savvy buddy check the stop lights to see if they work, possible blown fuse! You can try this.
It won't go into gear or it won't move while in gear.
it wont go into gear stuck in park acouple of times if i restarted the car it would be ok but now i cant do anything.
Can you turn the key 1 click, not to run, and be able to move the shifter to neutral and start it. Sounds like the shift lock actuator.
brake lights are out thought that problem is stop lights switch. check the fuse for lights .
I figured the lights were not working! Fix the lights,, shifter will be fixed as well. Possible switch problem but better check fuses again or have them checked!! I bet one is blown!!!!!! This same circuit also unlocks the shifter when stepping on brake pedal.
