What is your question?
I was driving and noticed temp was on red, immediately pulled over, and shot the engine. Steam was coming out , and noticed the coolant hose was disconnected from air intake valve. I towed the car home, and next day connected the hose, added coolant, and checked for any visible issues, and found none. The engine cranks, but she won't start. How can I troubleshoot?

Well it might have started back up if you hadn't "shot the engine".. Reckon it's dead now!
shot it with a 44 Magnum?
Well I digress!! .. Evidently I just misunderstood the 'slang' that was posted.
One more to add is the coolant line to air intake valve was not placed all the way, and it came out during this last episode. There are a lot of the particles in that area where all the coolant was coming out. My recent heart failure also prevents me to do too much work, and becoming disabled, and not work limited the finances. I just wanted to thank you for your help, I appreciate it. God bless.
â–ªï¸Suggest 'compression test' first... Good luck with it!â–ªï¸
Thank you kindly. I thought it would help by shot in it off because of all the steam, and or smoke.
Test compression first as the piston rings may have lost their tension if engine got 'hot enough'.. Again, good luck with it!
I'll do that tomorrow, and thanks for your reply. It all happened too fast. Just a few minutes prior I added a bit of oil, and all fluids were checked. 15 miles later I noticed a bit of power loss on the freeway and looked at the instrument panel to find the temp gage on red, and at this point I was exiting the freeway, so I pulled over to the shoulder and I thought it was smoke coming out so turned ignition off, and went to open the hood. From loss of power notice to death no more than 5 sec. Thank you I also checked the radiator looking for clues, and found this greyish sand particles on the cap, and inside, as well as where the coolant hose had disconnected. Nothing in the oil thoigh. That's very clean. What is that?
"Greyish looking sand particals".. Maybe metal filings?.. When was the last time you had the timing belt & 'water pump' replaced? .. Heard any unusual rattling noise from engine lately?
16 months ago water pump, timing belt, and head gasket replaced, but the job was done very poorley. The engine used to run so smooth, and quiet, after this job a knocking sound (lifters perhaps) could be heard, and Just never the same engine performance. My cell was on for a while with code 71. I cleaned EGR valve, air intake and changed mass air flow sensor (was not functioning). That work was done 10 months ago. I also replaced the plugs, wires, air filter, and the fuel filter.
Ok, at this point I suggest checking the timing belt and if all that's ok do the compression test.. Those checks don't take long as it's not too involved.. With that, I'll wish you good luck again with the outcome.. Adios
Yes you are right. I just wanted to thank you for your replies. Unfortunately the compression test did confirm the death of my beloved. It must have gotten really hot, because the plug wires had seized, but I was able to disconnect #2 and got a 95. Also noticed milky type oil on the tip of the plug. One confirmation after another. The shop wants $1900 and more for labor to exchange engines if I provide him with a used replacement. He said it would be more expensive if he has to change timing belt, and water pump, etc. I love this car, and it's much cheaper to junk it, and buy another. It only had 89k miles, and in the family since birth. Any suggestions?
Yeah, that's major repair for sure.. Unfortunately the vehicle isn't worth it as far as value, but if you want to keep driving it then you got to bite the bullet.. Shop around but it ain't going to be much better anywhere you check.
I was checking the market, and for the repair cost I can buy another later model cuz till 99 they're about the same, and take out anything necessary to replace, and junk this. Then I will have a better vehicle to get arround. Mostly food shopping, and doctor's appointments. It's almost like a full time job keeping up with the medicals. I just wanted to thank you again for all the help man. God bless.
