What is your question?
Engine was running when I was degreasing engine compartment. I used a good amount of water at a car wash rinsing it off and it ran for several minutes after I finished the rinse. Engine cut out just as I was about to close the hood and drive off. Cranks all day, but does not start. Car towed and has sat for several days. Still won't start.

You opened the hood and sprayed water on the engine,, on purpose ... really?.... was it on fire??
That is why you aren't supposed to power wash the engine compartment. You have gotten water in a piece of electronics somewhere that isn't supposed to get wet. Check the ignition wires where they meet the spark plugs. Make sure that water isn't pooling on top of the plugs. Check distributor if equipped for water. Check all of the fuses. Leave the hood open and let it bake in the sun to dry out. Good luck.
well, the icm is $500.00 and the coils are $200.00 each, and you have 6 of them. the crank sensor is $100.00.did anyone ever tell you not to spray an engine while it is running?did you read the instructions on the can, before you did this?you can and/or will crack the engine block from doing this.you should have covered up all electrical on this car before attempting to clean it,with engine off and keys in pocket.this is prices for the 6 cylinder.i hope you have the 12 cylinder, cause the parts are a lot cheaper.
Have exactly the same problem. Have changed Crank Position Sensor. Cranks but no-start. Have the ECU being checked. How did (did you?) resolve?
did you power wash the engine with it running?
No - engine cold and off. Would crank afterwards but "no start". have replaced Crank Position Sensor (CPS) but still the same. sounds the same situation you had.
have a 12cylinder xjs ! sitting for the last four months ! Cranks but will not start ?? Have gas !
What year? My issue was corrosion on the ECU (1995) - needed to strip and replace the two connectors. 76 connections. Fired straight up and now running perfectly. Diagnosis was a nightmare - OBD I is not a lot of help. Went through: changing the Crank Position Sensor, checking signal at the injectors (manually trigger), checking signal at the coils (again manually trigger), eventually pulling ECU to find that it looked like a battery left in a flashlight for 10 years (green and white corrosion / oxide). Water works it's way down the A pillar and slowly corrodes. Cleaning the engine (which is a 'must do' - whole different conversation as to why) was pure coincidence the ECU just failed at the same time! If yours is pre-95 12 cylinder lot of ECU's available on ebay. Jag refer to them as Petrol Injection and Ignition control Unit. Would recommend getting a spare to put away for the future anyway, they are getting less plentiful.
Sorry my car is the 1995 XJS 12cylinder ! Just been sitting in a covered dry free garage and first time she failed to start ! Hoping your advice works for me ! Thanks
Was that really appropriate or helpful in any way? I'm retired military and you cannot hurt my feelings; just want to give you, the professional, a little advice. When someone admits to making a stupid mistake and is looking for help, the 'professional' that is responding probably shouldn't rub salt in the wound. No one gets helped, you lose a customer or future ally, and no one wins. I've learned a lot about my XJS since that not-so-good day and I appreciate all the other expert recommendations.
