The locksmith only replaced the key, not the lock cylinder? Was the original problem that the car would crank but not start, or you could not turn the key to even try? Was the steering locked prior to the locksmith working on it?
The steering wheel will lock with the key out and the shift lever in the Park position. This is normal. If the steering wheel is turned so the front wheels have tension on that lock, it may be difficult to turn the key, unless you wiggle the steering wheel back and forth a little bit off of that steering wheel lock while turning the key This will likely get your key to turn and your steering wheel freed. All that to say: if the key is not cut properly, then it will not turn in the key cylinder to allow the steering wheel to become unlocked.
First thing we need to know here is exactly WHY the key was replaced to start with..
