What is your question?
today my car died at a traffic light It is a manual 2.4 litre 4 cyl had it towed to Autozone they diagnosed it and told me it was my alternator I replaced the alternator car still makes the same sound. serpentine belt is turning the pullys but there's no cranking sound as if the pistons aren't moving??

if your alternator died,so did your battery,or it would not have cut off on you.when the alternator dies, you are running straight off the battery, untill it drains it,then it cuts off.did you charge the battery,or replace it to?battery has to have 12.6 volts with car off.will it jump off from another vehicle?
"Serpentine belt is turning the pulleys but there's no cranking sound as if the pistons aren't moving".... **Suggest compression test**... Any noise just before the engine stalled?.. Any strange metallic sound or grinding while cranking the engine now??.. Just exactly how did Zone test your alternator to determine it's the problem??? Why would you have it TOWED to a parts store for diagnosis?.. That's like going to the drug store before seeing a doctor!!!
if the battery was dead, they can't check it,unless somebody took it off the car,and took it inside to the machine.
I've got a pretty good idea what's happened but I'm not saying without a reply to answer my questions!.. I'm bout done with all this s--t anyway!! Probably gonna start posting exactly what I think about some of this stuff too!!.. Usually never get a reply.. let alone a thanks!
i know u know.i detected that in your answer.i hardly ever see anyone come back and say, thank you, it's rare.i answered 1 around 4 hours ago,but told them to reply and i would give them the part number on their problem, because dealer was gonna eat em up,but no reply yet.
sorry I didn't get back last night I got frustrated and it was late but thanks for the help seriously the car didn't make a sound at the light it just died and I actually didn't have it towed to Autozone it just happen to be outside the zone when he decided to die so I had a couple of good Samaritans push me into the zone parking lot. they tried jumping it to no avail they took the battery out tested it charged it and put it back in the car tested the connections to the alternator to make sure it wasn't a fuse and that the alternator was actually getting power after they convinced me it was the alternator I purchase an alternator installed it last night in the car still made the same sound its not grinding or a metallic sound. my girlfriend triedbturning it over while I was under the hood listening for a demon.. alli saw & heard was the serpentine belt turning the wheels.. Thanks john
When the engine is being cranked....sound different, like its spinning faster than it used to?.. Just don't sound right in other words??.. Do you know how, to test compression?.. You see if the engine is spinning (turning the belt) battery and alternator are not the problem... Even a parts salesman should have know that!.. Next thing to do is test compression... IF low or no compression... Suspect engine timing problem.
The engine doesnt sound like its spinning faster than it should that woulda lead me to compression as well.. hhhhhit sounds like a big power drill. I even put my hand on the top of the engine while she tried to start it no indication that the engine internals are even moving... just the sound of a drill?? this has me stumped! im no certified mechanic but ive turned a few wrenches in my day & I've never come across a issue as this

I'm open to any other ideas before I start pulling out what little hair I have
OWNER.see comment #5.do like pushrod said,do compression test.also,if the Zone took your battery out and charged it,and it charged, then they put it back in,and said they tested your alternator without the car running, they did not tell you the truth.the car has to be running before you can test the output of the alternator, with battery fully charged.unless it was removed from the car and taken inside to the testing machine they have.go back and take the new alternator back with you,and talk to the manager, and tell them to test your old alt.and watch as they test, same with new one, watch closely as they test.all they did was make their sales go up for the day,and ticket average go up.unless you like giving money away.you either gave them around $130.00 or around $210.00,depending on new or reman.
Im so glad I asked you guys for help!! It wasnt the alternator at all and after I purchased a new one I started thinking go figure. the day of the happening zone told me the alt was bad well I went back the following day just to find out the "newguy" tested it so after getting my $150 back & taking off the valve cover I learned the engine had little to no compression & the timing had jumped #&*@/#^ ohh and did I mention the 287,000 on the dash. Time for a engine or the junk yard. All that was ever replaced was the clutch, both cv axles, serpentine belt, battery, & the oil... other things like ignition, door locks, window actuators hmmm.. tires!! with all that the alternator was still good :/ Go Honda Go Thanks a bunch guys stay tuned. Stevieray1 & Pushrod you dudes are the best..
