Vent Valve Solenoid replaced, still getting 0449 mechanic says it has to run a while to get it working as it should. That doesn't sound right to me! Once the new part is installed shouldn't the 0449 error go away?

no.not unless you clear the code,or until the computer sees it is working,then it will go out on it's own.or take it to Autozone and have them clear it,if they will.
Here's the correct procedure: Professional scanner can run functional test on solenoid to determine if it's working OR not!.. 'After' testing and replacing (if necessary).. scanner can run EVAP system test in shop service bay to confirm repair and then clear codes .. IF problem is fixed.. Code should not return!!
