Same thing as Toyota Corolla... *Free running engine* .. 1- You have no ignition spark...2- Engine timing is still incorrect .. 3- spark plugs are fuel fouled and need to be replaced, using NGK plugs... Test ignition spark FIRST.. (If no spark).. Possible damaged crank sensor wiring or the new sensor is damaged//defective... **Valves are NOT bent 'due to timing belt breakage'.** ..I'm not relying on a list of interference engines... I have just fixed way too many of them that have had broken timing belts! .. 'IF' the engine timing IS correct.. Simple compression test is ALL that's needed!
Yes,both engines are interference engines! 1.6L DOHC and 1.8L DOHC! you didn't put the engine size in your question, but both are interference engines!
Thank you for the info.
Ok. Thanks. I've only fixed this on interference Deawoo engines.
That's not even in the same class!.. In stevieray1's defense... In some cases, these engines are mistakenly listed as interference but are not... You have another problem... Good luck.. Let us know the outcome.
Ok. I replaced the plugs after checking for spark through the plug wires. Good spark. Still won't run. I am still unsure if I timed with the right mark on the cam sprocket. It has two marks. One with an A, and one with a K. All the research I did online left me to believe to time it using the mark with A. BTW it's a 4A-FE 1.6L. Thanks.
You're not even close!... There has got to be a bunch of how to info, illustrations and videos online for > *timing belt replacement on 93 to 97 Toyota Corolla* 1.6L OR 1.8L, same procedure... It's near impossible to post the correct procedure here .. I'm not going to attempt that... You need a diagram or picture!... Purchase a repair manual..... Buy the belt tensioner which has the complete instructions & illustrations with it in the box..... Find a YouTube video... Note: Corolla has the EXACT same engine as the Prizm or vice versa .. Just to add.. My knock-about is a Corolla with that engine...260k miles on the clock... I make it a point to know this stuff.. Good luck!
Car is running. I timed the cams with the wrong timing mark. Like I said it had two marks. One with an A over the hole and one with a K over the other hole. I timed using the A. 120° out. Lined up the mark with the K and it fired right up. Thanks for the advice.
