Had transmission rebuilt & after 2 weeks stopped while driving, would not go into drive or reverse. Took back to repair shop could only tell me water had some how got in

Water or coolant? Radiator internal failure could allow COOLANT , NOT water into the trans. , although usually it works the opposite and trans fluid gets more into the engine cooling system.
Was this the cause of the original failure? .. Is the repair shop going to take care of this for you? .. You 'should' have been better advised about HOW "water" (antifreeze/coolant) got into the "rebuilt" transmission!!
COMMENT by Ms.Tia, June 29, 2016 Mechanic says was clear like water. I don't know what original problem was before rebuild. The van OD light was flashing & not shifting in any gear. I was told 2003 Windstar trans were problematic & suggested rebuild with (12mo/12000 mile work warranty guarantee ) instead of replacement. The trans was rebuilt & driven 2weeks b4 last breakdown & water diagnosis was given. Flag inappropriateEdit
Suggest they give you more specific details IN WRITING , and request they either prove that water got in there and it was NOT due to their workmanship(or lack thereof), or that they honor the warranty and fix the transmission properly. Again , IF it's not to late , you may want to get it towed to another shop for a second look. IF there is foul play , they may hesitate at that thought? Good luck.

Is the shop using the water as an excuse not to warranty the trans rebuild? Sounds shady , if that's the case! Did you go through flood/puddles and forgot to mention that? We (Maryland/DC/Virginia area) had some pretty severe rainstorms these last weeks. Also , maybe , if not to late , get another shop to inspect BEFORE they remove trans. and maybe 'PUSHROD' can verify my thought on this: is the 'vent cap' there and properly installed?
Wasn't driven thru rainstorms vehicle was in shop thru out storms. I too suspect shady behavior with shawdy excuses. I think because I'm female he feels he can half explain & tell me anything which is why I'm asking questions & researching. I hear some 2003 Windstar trans were recalled & upgrade kits were issued. I bought mine November used car lot & didn't know that there was no lights lit on dash, looked & sounded good, had no reason to suspect.
