The A/C in my 2005 Ford Taurus has stopped producing cold air.

I have tried everything to determine what is wrong with the ac compressor on my girlfriends 2005 Ford Taurus. When the A/C is turned on, nothing but hot air comes out. Then I noticed that the clutch is not engaging. I have filled the A/C system with freon but the clutch still will not engage. Is there a simple inexpensive fix for this problem?
