the failed test gave me a P401 code, fuel senser. I took to my mechanic and he said it was the fuel pump. He changed the fuel pump and the engine light continued after a couple of days. I went back and my mechanic said I had to replace the fuel pump again because my ignition was burning it out??? I let him replace the ignition switch, as he was removing my ignition switch to replace it with a new one, he found yet another problem. He said my steering column need to be replaced because the steering column was causing my ignition switch to to go out causing my fuel pump to burn out. Nothing was wrong with my fuel pump. I said how does the ignition switch and steering have to do with my P401 code. I told him it was never my fuel pump in the first place and he got and an attitude...I asked him to put on my old ignition switch and I would go pick up my car. He said if I do not replace the ignition switch then my fuel pump will go out again and it will not be replaced a thrid time. It never had to be replaced.....my car still sits in my drive way since January because I do not know what to do. This fake never really took the time to check my car out in the beginning to get my car to pass smog test. Any suggestions??? What is a fuel senser??

The P0401 code refers to the EGR sensor, not the fuel pump. I would suggest you do some research to find a reputable repair shop in your area. Use the Repair Pal site to find a local Top Shop, use AAA Web site to find an Approved Repair Facility, use NAPA's web site to find a NAPA Auto Care facility in your area.
Thank you both for your answers: When I showed the mech that replaced my fuel pump my failed smog report , and when I brought it back to him because the light was still on, this idiot's answer was he was only going by what failed report said. Failed due to P401 fuel senser so he replaced my fuel pump. I will ask him for a refund but I doubt it he will give me my money back.
