The camshaft being out of time (chain worn/jumped) will result in a cranks but won't start, no spark. Unplugging the sensor lets the computer ignore that input and it starts the engine off of the crank sensor alone. A DRBIII scan tool would likely report that the cam/crank signals are out of sync while cranking.
Circuit to sensor!
Could to much oil in pan through oil on sensor and make it fail? Also if sensor line is bad would it not through a code? Thanks.
Is there a code now since you have started car with sensor unplugged????.... 3 wire sensor connector can be checked to see if circuit is ok! Do you have a dvom,, and know how to use it??
Thanks for both your answers. I do have a scan tool but doesn't have a graf monitor. The code does show up after I unplug sensor. The jump time makes most sense. When I first started the car there was a bad noise under the left valve cover like a bearing. It went away after it warmed up. Also crank pulley wobbles. I think I will tell him it time for a new car. Body is in bad shape to. Great answer to my questions and I thank you both for your help. God Bless.
