dropped tank, checked ecm connectors and ground on head. checked connectors under floorboard. assuming ecm bad or bad ground

Scanner can run functional test of ALL gauges in the instrument cluster!!!
Did you check resistance of the fuel level sensor (float potentiometer) , while in there? 5V is probably the correct reference voltage.Although Pushrods suggestion is much easier , it's just plain boring............
Hell, i like boring... can keep up with that at least! ....Most of the time....
Yep! Wish I could say that, but a lot of what I do is damage control for the other techs (HOWEVER I know I'd be pretty much lost in the aftermarket world now!), nothing boring about that . Wears you out!

problem was terminal contact at connector under driver floor. when checking both sides everything checked good. being i had 5 volts on scan tool i went after ground side. found no tension in connector. bent tang a little and it's good.
