Remove coil wire from distributor cap .. Have a helper crank the engine over while you see if spark will jump from the coil wire to a metal ground somewhere on the engine .. Spark should easily jump a 3/4 inch gap and be blue in color with an audible snap or pop each time it sparks! .. IF uncomfortable doing this test, seek qualified hands-on help .. Post test results for more information... It has NOT jumped time, of that you can rest assured.
if you put gas in the throttle, and it didn't start and then cut back off shortly, then you need to check for spark.
My dad and husband has tried this and it gets fire but still won't start. Is it possible it jumped time?
Read my answer again about how *MUCH* spark it should produce... The fact it's just getting spark isn't conclusive! NO, it has not jumped time!! .. That just don't happen anymore with these engines... Compare the spark from coil wire to the spark from plug wire .. Should be the exact same.. IF the spark from plug wire is weaker than spark from coil wire .. **Replace distributor cap and rotor** !! .. Make sure plug wires are placed back on the distributor cap in the correct firing order.
