I've taken my 2008 Chevrolet Equinox to the mechanic 3 times and still have the same lights on. Is it possible to fix this problem myself? Autozone gave me a code of p0404. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem (service light for stabilitrak and traction control); but no problems with the car performance. When this happened a month ago I went online and read several blogs. One blog said to open the hood, wiggle things around, and open and close caps (i.e. oil, radiator etc) and see if the light goes out. Well, I am a 62 year old woman (not mechanically inclined at all) and was not ready to surrender to some of the repair costs I read about, so i gave it a shot. I took off my gas, oil, and radiator caps - then put them back on, moved a few hoses and belts, closed the hood and turned the car on and the lights have now been out for 2 weeks. Another blog said to turn the steering wheel real hard to the right and the left - that didn't work for me. Just thought I'd share in case some of you have a similar situation (meaning lights on but no apparent mechanical problems). Good luck!
Forget about zone, no mechanics work there! What did the 3 MECHANICS say the problem was??...It's not diy! PO404 is egr code,, not the problem with these lights! ABS light on as well?
P0404 is for the EGR valve, the stabilitrak is more then likely the steering centering sensor. Have the ABS module scanned with preferred Tec2 scan tool.
I had this problem 3 times in the first year on my 2009 Chev Express van. First time left rear wheel speed sensor was replaced; 2nd & 3rd times right rear wheel speed sensor was replaced. Fixed each time under warranty. Up to 116,000 miles now & no more problems.
My onstar service said my 2011 Chevy Equinox problem was Power Train System...what is this. My service engine light came on for two days then disappear.. Can the dealer correct the problem without the light on this is the second time this happen. the first time it only stayed in for about one hour...
1st mech cleaned EGR valve. 2nd mech replaced p0449 and 3rd place i went to was zone. They told me p0404
You just need to find a qualified machanic! All zone can do is read the engine codes. That is no help here! It needs a scan test....a complete scan test!
ok thank u
