My zx2 is a five speed and is locked in gear even when shifter is in neutral

The shift linkage rod is broken or dislodged and not moving the trans. gear.

recently bought an 2002 zx2 coup. with the same problem and it came with a new/used tranny in the trunk. took out original transmission and had my mechanic rebuild it and found out the spider gears where shear. took the new/used tranny apart and it had the same problem. took couple of weeks searching the info to fix the problem. 1st... ford doesn't sale the spider gears any longer. 2nd... went to Mazda, since this is a Mazda tranny, to see if they have the gears... they do but they are to big for zx2 tranny. couple more weeks reading forums and found a place in Anaheim Gear in southern Cali had some gear still in the original ford package. they will ask you what is the shaft spline count and what cut design on the big gear has.... the guy is name Eric... for a hundred bucks, including shipping i received four new gears... don't race this tranny... to weak at the final drive....
