My car currently has about 45,000 after almost 8 years of use. The cracking started after 4 years! I had no idea there were others out there like me. Flag This Like | 41 people like this Visitor, 2008 Toyota Solara, 37,000 mi dashboard is cracking and disintegrating. The dealer didn't want to help, told me to call 1-800-GO-TOYOTA, which I did, they were useless and told be to go through the dealer. Due to many reports of this issue in many of their models, there is clearly a defect in the material used and Toyota is not standing by their product. I am going to attempt to go through the attorney general's office. Flag This Like | 33 people like this Visitor, 2004 Toyota Solara, 42,000 mi Cracks all over dashboard. Dealers would do nothing. Went to California headquarters via telephone and after repeated demands that this may be a silent recall issue they finally paid for 80% of the fix. Keep pushing your complaint up the ladder and they will do something. Flag This Like | 19 people like this Visitor, 2005 Toyota Solara, 39,000 mi My car developed these cracks along the top and sides of the dashboard and the panel under the glovebox. It's also very gummy to the touch. I recently had to bring my car in to the dealership for a recall on the crankshaft pully. I asked about the dashboard and the service manager said sometimes Toyota will give the parts as an act of goodwill but I would need to pay the installation. I have been since informed that my car is to old (2005) and Toyota declined the goodwill request. Cot to repalace is $2,000.00 Flag This Like | 17 people like this Sassyrn, 2006 Toyota Solara, 84,000 mi Rookie Same as everyone else...no help from Toyota...willing to be part of a class action suite... Flag This Like | 12 people like this Visitor, 2004 Toyota Solara, 50,000 mi Same problem as everyone else has described. Gummy feeling started first on the gear shift when the material became worn. Second location where this occurred was on the driver side door where my elbow and forearm sat (when the window wasn't down and my arm was up there). Third location was when the passenger side dashboard cracks began to appear above the glove box. So far there are probably between 5 and 10 cracks. I'm guessing this will just continue to get worse. Flag This Like | 9 people like this Visitor, 2004 Toyota Solara, 95,000 mi I to have a problem with my dashboard. It is cracked from above the steering wheel across and around the radio and over to the other side. The worst area is above the glove box. It looks like a spider web. When I took my car to the dealers they said it was because I used armor all which I have never used. Then I was told it would cost me $1100 dollars for a new one and that it didn't include labor. This all started at 44,000 miles. this was my experience this week after researching and following the dashboard issue for a while. I took our 2004 SLE Convertible in to our local dealer after calling the 800# to report and not getting any follow up. I was literally in the line awaiting a service rep longer than I was there to get scheduled for the dash replacement. The tech looked at the car and called over one of the managers. They disappeared for no more than five minutes and returned saying they had ordered the part and had a confirmed delivery date and I could come in next week for the replacement. I'm told it takes less than a day. My local dealer said they have done a number of Solara dash replacements this year. I'll follow up here with a report on the repair. Our 2004 is always garaged and in like new condition and I'm pretty particular about who does our repairs and the quality and customer service. Hoping to put this cracked dash issue in the rearview mirror. If you've had trouble in the past getting your dealership to help, definitely try again and mention Customer Service Program ZE6.
I would absolutely be willing to join a class action. My 2007 had the same issue, except I missed the recall because it was never received due to a move.
I have the same issue, 2006 Toyota Solara Convertible SLE Manufacture Date: 07/05. I have been trying to see if I can get my dash repaired. I subscribed to AllData DIY and printed out the TSB Recall. When I called the number on the TSB, Toyota said too late, the recall has expired. I would like to join the class action suit as I was never notified of the recall. Thanks Jeff O'Connell
I have same problem re cracks in dashboard. I am willing to join a class action suit.
I have a 2006 convertible, always in the garage, same problem as everyone. i would be willing to join a class action suit
Same here, I have a 2008 Solara, the dashboard is a disaster, Cracks everywhere from over the steering wheel to over the glovebox and on the lower side pieces next to the stereo controls and the temperature controls. No help from my local dealer when none of this happened until right after Toyota closed the recall for free replacement and no help from corporate either, just a stupid response apologizing and sorry we can’t help you now. This is not weather related either, it is shoddy and faulty material. I would like to be included in the class action lawsuit as well.
This is exactly my experience as well. Same worthless disgraceful response from dealer and Toyota. Never received any recall info. Would definitely like to be included in the class action lawsuit - they cannot be allowed to get away with this.
