Tarheel Person:most of the time when the battery light comes on,it's the alternator going bad,but could be battery.don't know who did your test, and it may be correct.but, take it to Autozone,i know ya'll got one of them there places over yunder in Louisburg!thats the way we talk in the Kakalaky's!they will put a load test on your battery, and also check your alternator.they have a pretty good tester.it's FREE!post results here.i should have said this first, but check your connections on the battery for corrosion, clean and tight, also ground connections.
Could be a poor pin connection at the gauge cluster.
Easier said than done , unfortunately. I saw the post and a recent car we had in the shop (I'm at a No. Va. dealership) had the same symptom and the tech that got to check it out after testing the basics , as you already have , pulled the gauge cluster and tested the harness connector between the gauge and fusebox , then (that test was good) before he plugged it back ing checked 'drag' on the terminals and found one was spread and not getting good contact. Tightened terminal plugged it in and the light came on for self-test and that was it. IF only they could all be that simple! (relatively speaking)
Thanks...will mention that possibility when I get it to the dealer 06/10/15 update...into Honda dealer....they determine the alternator is failing and should be replaced... they install a new alternator..approx.. $600... then report that it is defective as it is not testing properly....need another...closest is an hour away.....entering hour 6 in the waiting room they return to say the second new alternator did not test correctly and it has been determined that it needs a new PCM aka ECU.....theory is the alternator damaged the PCM...$1100 but covered under 8/80 warranty....rental car provided by the dealer and waiting for parts to come in.
Well, had the tests done by experienced peeps at the Bunn Exxon...got a print out that battery is good and charging is good....maybe a sending unit on the alternator?
maybe all is good.it won't hurt to get it checked somewhere else, just to make sure,i would and have before.or it could be what answer #2 said.but you would need testing equipment to check that, and know what you are looking for. you would have to pull the cluster for starters.
