I replaced my wiper motor on my 1989 s10 when my wipers quit working. After replacing wiper blades i tried the motor out and the blades stop in the upright position how do i fix this problem.

Did the wiper motor you put in come with the controller? Most of the time the voltage regulator or diode short in this module not allowing the wipers to properly work. This module sometimes comes with the new wiper motor and sometimes it doesn't? If it does? Try another motor assembly.
It is possible that you simply need to pull the motor back off at the ball connector rotate the motor 180 degrees and reinstall
