will erratic gauge and check engine lights cause engine to stall while driving?

while driving sometimes stops running out of blue but just before it does this all IP lights start jumping ike there is a bad connection or something. you can wait a few minutes and it may startup then cut off before you can take off,or it may let you take get down the road a bit and cut off , or you may not see this condition again for a couple of weeks.
