What is your question?
engine lite came on and engine was running rough at idle.took to shop and they changed egr?? valve and now purrs like a kitten.still runs rough at highway speeds(light still on and now my ac dont work and my OD'off' light constantly blinks.none of this was wrong before they worked on it). now when i put in gear and accelerate, it 'bogs' down, loses power, wont accelerate. cant go over 5 mph because it has no power.itll accelerate to a certain rpm, then fall flat, loses power,in park at idle runs smooth, but if i start to accelerate it bogs down, loses power. why what did they do to it that it wont accelerate?

4.6L gas v-8. had a variety of codes. some were o2 sensors, something about transmission sensor . but i got no troubles with trans.various other things i cant think of. actually was like 10 codes, but they said some u could discount. its automatic trans. i changed my fuel filter under the truck today. no change in operation
you probably have a vacuum leak at the pcv valve hose, located in the passenger side valve cover towards rear of engine, and may have other vacuum leaks.that little hose on the pcv valve will suck flat, and split, and throw all kind of false codes.you probably didn't need a new EGR VALVE either?google P0401 for 2002 F150 4.6L and click on some of those Ford Forums and read and look at the pictures.you ain't gonna believe it!there is a step by step by Greg Upton on how to fix this.the throttle body will need to be removed to do this, you don't want that crap going down in the intake.those 2 passages where the EGR VALVE bolts to the throttle body are COMPLETELY stopped up with black carbon, and getting no air.you can't spray it out!you have to dig it out or drill it out.if yours has never been off and cleaned,i would bet yours is clogged.post findings.
thanks, i will check it out.
i have been wrong before, but check all that what i stated in my last post.no one told me all this,it is FACT!these fords are bad to do this.my pcv valve hose collapsed and it gave me 9 codes.i had to strip back a little of that foam insulation to get it off.the hose ain't but about 3 inches long, then it hooks to a metal pipe and goes around and hooks into the back of the intake, check that elbow there also for leaks.let us know if/what you find.
hose was off a hose was off. it was from a part on the valve cover;looking at motor from standing in the front ;on the passenger side.(egr valve?) it ran to a boot on the back of the throttle body(air intake). i pushed it in the boot,(rubber elbow actually)boot is not torn or ripped. their are 2 other hoses im guessing those 2 and that 1 i connected are vaccuum lines. other 2 appear ok and not torn or damaged. anyway, after i connected hose to boot, no difference in vehicle operation. still idles but starts missing when i accelerate and if i put in gear and give it gas it just bogs down. can floor it and just bogs down. i changed the fuel filter and air cleaner are ok.
who ever worked on it probably left the hose disconnected, and maybe some others.did you check the pcv valve hose like i stated?and also the egr passages on the throttle body?if it's clogged, you can fix it yourself.if you have to take it to a shop or dealer, gonna be over $500.00 to clean it,if that's the problem!
idk where is the pvc valve at? the only part i see on the valve cover is on the passenger side. and thats the hose i connected. idk where pvc is
ok.that is the PCV VALVE in the back of the valve cover pass. side with that hose you hooked back up.NO reason that hose should be off of the pcv valve.did it feel mushy when you hooked it back up?it's only about 3 inches long, and hooks to the metal pipe that runs around and hooks in the back of the intake, that hose is probably covered in foam insulation and you will have to cut the insulation back a little to check it.if that hose was off, then it blew off!check it real good, and remove the pcv valve from the valve cover and shake it.if it don't rattle when you shake it,then it is bad!
removed hose and rubber boot from pcv valve. the part thats insulated is a hard plastic pipe. just the end that goes on the valve is a rubber elbow, like the piece on the back of the air intake. examined them all. the pipe and the rubber elbows are fine. the elbows are ridgid and in great shape. no defects on any pieces. i removed the pcv valve. its in good shape. i wiped it off and shake it. it rattles easy and not obstructed.
ok.that's good.when you can, have the codes read for the check engine light.get Autozone to read them and print them out for you,it's free.post all the codes here.
truck not driveable, but when i get codes read ill post
okeydokey!
Stevieray1. If your still available for communication, I sure could use your knowledge. I have such a similar dilemma with a 2002 Ford f150 supercrew cab 4.6,
Rotary12 did you ever find the problem with your ford f150 4.6?
