Suspect 'sludge' in oil pan is intermittently blocking oil pick-up tube resulting in loss of oil pressure... Turn engine off and sludge drops back into oil pan .. Start engine and sludge is drawn back onto oil pick-up tube after a few moments.
Cleaning out the oil pan and pickup tube will that take care of the knocking in the engine?
Does the engine ever have any oil pressure when it is first started now? .. With engine running - does the knocking noise ever go away and then come back - or it is knocking all the time ?
Knocking all the time. He was driving home when the knocking started and seemed to get louder
Have mechanic listen to it, may be too late for easy fix... Good luck with it!
