Why didmy 2016 cmax hybrid go crazy hit brakes, no brakes it accelerates instead

Heard nothing, going crawling speed I'm in my handicap space, go to brake, i have no brakes at all and it then accelerates jumps the parking curb, takes out handicap sign which was in concrete, goes up into the air runs onto a century cactus plant and that's what finally stopped car and then it wouldn't turn off either, help any suggestions as to why this happened? Also no airbag deployment and this message kept flashing check autotrak?
What makes this problem better or worse?

Just today, car is damaged and in shop but I'm more concerned with mechanical problem

Over the *many years* I have been in the automobile repair business - I have seen this exact same thing time and time again.
Unfortunately - no one is going to be able to convince you that you mistakenly depressed the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal ..
Only advice is in the future - please be more careful..
Side note: Air bags will not deploy if the collision does not create enough inertia to warrant it, so I suspect this was proper and normal (and fortunate as you won't need to make major repairs for that!)
