When I set the AC on, the temperature rises above half the normal range. Why?

As long as it's not overheating should be ok. Check fan,radiator,and condenser clean as needed. Some vehic.have electric fans as well to help when ac on. Check for that and see that it comes on with ac.Does it run cooler at say 55 mph?
