What would cause my car to consume oil in between oil changes?

Well I still have about 100 more miles before I am due for an oil change and this morning the dip stick was dry, so put in 2 quarts and now it's at the full mark. My car has 145,000 miles on it.

how much have you added since last oil change?what type/weight oil are you using?what type/weight does it call for in the owners manual under specifications?

Well today I added 2 quarts, and that is all I have added since the last oil change. The place where I have been getting my oil changes done has been using 5W30.

you should check the oil a least once a week.if you are having it changed every 3000 miles,that's pretty much normal.but,i would not wait until 2900 miles on it after oil change to check it,and 2 quarts low.just continue with the oil changes,use a good filter(NOT FRAM)and check it regularly!
