Regular oil changes is the BEST defense against sludge buildup!
SAE 5W−30 is the best choice for your vehicle, for good fuel economy, and good starting in cold weather.
It will be just fine to use 10W-30 there in Columbia SC. Fact is it would be better this time of the year - no need to use synthetic oil - regular oil changes using conventional oil is an excellent choice.
