What is your question?
A mechanic did not put the hold down on my battery after working on my 4runner. The battery slide over to the steering pump and the pulley ground a hole in it's side causing acid to spray the engine compartment for three days. The auto shop is now replacing parts that are corroded and cleaning. They are painting some areas black. What should I do after they give me the car back after they say it is finished? I am worried that they could have missed some areas affected by the acid and there will be damage in the future.
I should spray Ballistol on areas that could have been missed by the shop. I don't think I should use it on brake pads. If they did not replace them. What about shock absorbers? Bearing? Gaskets? The power steering pump was soaked and the pulley was completely white with corrosion. They cleaned it and painted it black. I hope the seals would have kept the acid out. The pump was only a few years old. Could acid have found its way into the engine through the air cleaner? Or am I overly pessimistic? I did put about 200 miles plus on my 4runner in almost four days. The shop has had my car for two and a half weeks. They said they will pay for the rental I am driving.
Well it sounds like they are doing their best, that's a plus!!! Spray it on anything you desire!!!
I do believe they are doing their best, and I appreciate the owner and especially the service manager. He had to rise above his normal duties to handle a situation that should never have happened. When asked by the service manager why he did not call the customer nor tell the service manager that he did not install the battery hold down clamp, the mechanic's reply was, "I did not think it (the battery) would move too much." I know that service manager has been doing his best, far beyond the normal. After I get it back I will have the 4Runner inspected by my mechanic and hopefully this will be the end of it. Thanks for the advise.
