no engine codes. the lights will shut off then come back on

I just took my 2008 Jeep Patriot in the dealership TODAY for this. The lights have been on for a while but I finally took it in, assuming it was a sensor or something. WOW!!!! They said it would be over $1,000 for the repair and it was a ABS Pump and Module system. Guess that means I will leave the lights on as decoration unless I find out otherwise!
scan abs codes and post. could be a wheel sensor or other speed type issue
This happen to my 09 patriot. My mechanic couldn't figure out the problem.... all my warning lights turned on and my car kept stalling. I pulled over and shut off the car and once I did that there was no power... the car wouldn't start and none of the lights would turn on. I jumped it and drove home with the car still stalling of course and once again when I got home and shut off the car that was it there was no more power. I remember when I went to school for auto mechanics we were told that in order for an electrical current to flow there must be a ground connection. With that thought in mind I went under my hood and set out to figure out why I was getting no power. on the 2009 model if you look at the wires connected to the battery there is also a separate ground wire that attaches to part of the frame... That wire was frayed and because of that I was losing power. long story short I fixed the wire by cutting off The Frayed Part and stripped the casing on the wire and attached a new terminal to it and behold.... no more problems
Do you mind sharing where the ground wire was located. I am currently experiencing this exact problem with my 07 Jeep Compass. Thanks!
It's connected to the body near the battery. It's bolted to the frame above the drivers side headlamp. You'll know it when you see it because the other end is attached to one of the battery terminals.
If your 2010 Patriot has the 4WD! Light on all the time, there's one issue that Jeep isn't touching & I can see why. #1: Check Fuse #2 which is in the Fuse Block next to the Battery. Mine was missing. I am assuming the original owner took it out during the summer to use in the Power Plug, so he/she could use the Charger for an iPhone. Whatever the case was, this Fuse was gone. I bought a Kit of the ''Mini'' Fuses for the Patriots Glove Box, put a 15amp Fuse in slot #2 & the 4WD is working. But if that wouldn't have worked, heres the 2 other places to check, in order to get that 4WD! Light to go ff. #2 Starting with what was happening with the Patriots. Under the ''Kick Panel'' which is a plastic piece that is part of the door jamb. It would be that Plastic piece that the ''Hood Release'' goes through. Take that off, remove the electrical tape that is used to wrap the harness of wiring that runs under the Jamb. Look for the ''Pinkish Colored Wires'' it's called a Loop because 2 or the wires loop around & they all [4] connect together. It was common for the wires to corrode & cause a break in one of the wires. When that happens, the 4WD! Light would go on. Clean off the corrosion, reconnect all 4 wires & that should turn off that light. #3The next area where Patriots have issues with that same light ''4WD!'' Now this one is strange & worries me & heres why. The Fuse Block under the hood next to the battery, well, you have to loosen it so you can lift up on it. There's a series of Plugs that plug into the bottom of the Fuse Block. The Plug that goes the that #2 Fuse slot, can get corroded & when it does, that darn Light will go on & stay on, leaving you in Front Wheel Drive. I remember the Kia we had, a lot like our Tucson was so great in the snow, we hardly ever needed it. I would use it when my wife was in the car so she felt safe, so I would tell her if it's snowy outside on the roads, just leave in 4WD. [Happy Wife-Happy Life] At any rate, that is the other place where corrosion is possible & can cause a lot of heartache because who wants to hand over a pile of cash to a Dealership, or a Corner Garage. Both have taken advantage of people. They have with me. I hope this bit of information helps someone because I have not seen this issue posted anywhere & it's happening to a lot of Jeep Patriots, in the Northern States where we get Snow & Ice each Winter....
I have the same problem on my 2009 Jeep Patriot (dashboard lights are on for ABS, ESC). Took it to a good mechanic said module needs to be replaced. Because it's hard to get at to repair, labor will be half of the $1,000 repair cost. At first I wasn't going to repair it since car will still run and ouch! The repair cost is high but the more I've read online about stopping function, sliding during quick stops, and braking on slick roads, I've decided to save money earmarked for the module repair. The car only has 46,000 miles and I spend a lot of time driving for work. My safety and other drivers safety is surely worth $1,000.
