We have had the car of almost 8 years and we have always used the synthetic, without any problems. However, I have been searching the internet about any issues like this and found that in 2013 there was a class action lawsuit against Volkswagen in regards to issues like this. The lawsuit included 2007 EOS model and many other VW's as well. I have not been able to find how the suit ended up.
