Transmission acts like 1 cylinder isn't firing & car bucks upon acceleration

In addition, the gears don't seem to change at the proper speed/time upon acceleration. At constant speed the transmission appears to operate ok without the bucking. No icon or warning lights are displayed on the dashboard. Could this be a software problem?
