What is your question?
Mechanic removered ground cable from battery and touched a short cable from neg. cable to the positive cable a couple minutes and reinstalled grd. cable and the gauges worked for a little while, shut the engine off, then they quit again. Then he repeated the cable arrangement again and they worked again. I drove car a few ( 2 ) miles and shut it off and they quit again. scanner codes are fine. There are no other problems. I drive car every day. Has almost 180,000 miles on the car. runs great. car never been wrecked or abused. Whats wrong?
What makes this problem better or worse?

Anytime the battery cable is disconnected the stored diagnostic trouble codes are lost. Perhaps a professional scan test will help - as long as the battery hasn’t been disconnected. No other advice is appropriate at this time. Good luck!
